Project Description

Parker Dann secured planning permission and listed building consent for an extension to Spring Cottage, a 17 th century grade II listed building located in the Albourne Conservation Area and countryside outside the settlement.

The practice was appointed following the refusal of an earlier application for the extension of the property and on instruction we recommended a revised approach to the proposal to address the reasons for refusal raised by the local planning authority, Mid Sussex District Council. Our input included the appointment of a suitable architect to develop the revised scheme, extensive pre-application consultation with the Council’s Planning and Conservation Officers, the preparation of supporting documents for the applications and handling the applications up to their determination by the Council.

Whilst a certain scale of extension was required to meet the client’s requirements, the scheme was developed in a way that minimised the potential impact on the historic significance of the building – particularly through the careful use of the site topography and a high quality design approach.
