Black Robin Farm

Developing a non-designated heritage asset, within a protected landscape and designated Heritage Coast, with limited footfall, into a world class centre for visitors, learners, and businesses in the South Downs National Park

Details

Fantastic to be involved with an important cultural and educational project for Eastbourne Borough Council, converting an old farmstead on the Eastbourne Downland within the South Downs National Park. The planning challenges associated with developing a non-designated heritage asset, within a protected landscape and designated Heritage Coast, with limited footfall, into a world class centre for visitors, learners, and businesses cannot be overstated. The need for sensitive responses to architecture, design, landscaping and transport was forefront. Being appointed at the outset of the pre-application process enabled us to advise on and review the technical inputs to shape and improve the quality of the planning submission. Working closely with Officers and the project team, including Fielden Fowles architects, to navigate the planning policy requirements and deliver a scheme befitting of Eastbourne Borough Council’s vision, we achieved Officer support and a positive recommendation to Planning Committee. The planning is now in its final stages post committee of resolving the legal agreement and technical matters relating to ecology, subject to which Committee Resolved authority be delegated to grant planning permission.
